At BeeWaxed by Helen James, I take great pride in the products I use. I spend a lot of time researching and trying new waxes to ensure that I’m always offering the very best to my clients. My goal is simple – I want all of my clients to walk out feeling confident, happy, and with silky smooth skin. That’s why I only use the highest quality products available.
I use Perron Rigot Hot Wax, a favourite among celebrities, for all intimate and delicate areas. This wax is ideal for sensitive skin, as it contains essential oils and leaves no residues behind, causing no irritation or redness. It’s extremely efficient, removing hair as short as 1mm, and is both vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. The wax has a beautiful translucent colour with a supple texture, making it particularly suitable for short, tough hairs. I use it on the bikini line, face, and underarms, where comfort is key.
Perron Rigot hot wax literally shrink-wraps around the hair and does not stick to the skin. When removed, it pulls the hair from the root, leaving an incredibly smooth finish. This helps to prevent hair breakage, minimise ingrown hairs, and reduce the painful sting often associated with other types of wax.
For less sensitive areas, such as legs and forearms, I use the Roller System Wax. This method offers a hygienic, quick, and professional service, with less discomfort for the client. The roller system helps ensure a smoother, less painful waxing experience and is more efficient than the traditional pot and spatula method.
When booking your waxing appointment, please let me know if you’re currently on any medication, especially antibiotics. It’s also important to inform me if you use products like Retin-A, glycolic acid, Accutane, Benzoyl Peroxide, tanning products, or acne creams, as these can affect how your skin reacts during waxing.
With Perron Rigot hot wax, the skin is first cleansed, followed by the application of pre-wax oil. The wax is then applied and allowed to harden before being quickly and gently pulled off. As the hair is pulled directly from the root, it’s far less painful than traditional strip wax. This method also results in fewer ingrown hairs and less breakage, leading to smoother skin for longer. I highly recommend this for sensitive areas like the face, underarms, and bikini line.
For the less sensitive areas of the body, such as legs and arms, I use the Roller System Strip Wax. With this method, a thin layer of wax is spread on the skin and removed using a paper strip.
A Brazilian wax involves the removal of all hair from the butt crack to the outer and inner labia, leaving a strip of hair on the pubic mound. The width of this strip is entirely up to you, whether you want it thick or narrow. I can also include the buttocks if requested.
A Hollywood wax is a more thorough treatment, removing everything, including the buttocks if needed.
If you're booking an extreme waxing treatment like a Brazilian or Hollywood, you will need to get naked from the waist down. I know this can sound daunting, but don’t worry! All modesty must be left at the door, and you can be assured that I am a professional. I’m only focused on getting you the best results in the most comfortable and pain-free way possible. Once you've experienced a wax with me, you'll find it much easier and less intimidating the next time! I’ve seen it all and I truly want you to feel at ease throughout the process.
For the best results and to maintain that smooth feeling, I recommend coming in for a wax every 4 to 5 weeks. Over time, you may notice that your hair grows back slower, and you may even be able to leave longer gaps between appointments. Some areas may even stop growing hair altogether!
In most cases, you’ll see minimal regrowth during the first 3 weeks after your wax, with noticeable regrowth occurring after that. Regular waxing helps to encourage slower, sparser hair regrowth. I recommend not letting the hair grow out fully before your next appointment, as this can take a few months. With continued waxing, the hair follicle may stop growing a replacement hair altogether – in fact, some clients experience only about 20% regrowth after years of waxing!
If it’s your first time getting a Brazilian, the best preparation is exfoliation. Although I use the finest hot wax for Brazilian and Hollywood treatments, exfoliating 2-3 times a week will help remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin softer and smoother for better results. A dry body brush is fantastic for exfoliation, especially in the waxed areas.
Be sure not to moisturise before your wax, as it can create a barrier that makes the wax less effective. When it comes to hair length, the longer the hair, the more it may hurt. If you're new to waxing or haven't had a wax in months, trim the hair to about 1cm (8mm) to make it easier for me to work with. Don’t worry about being exact – if the hair is too long, I’ll trim it for you. If you’ve been removing hair yourself, it’s best to wait 3-4 weeks before waxing for the best results.
For less sensitive areas like the legs and arms, I use the Roller System with Perron Rigot Mojito Wax. This system ensures a thin, even layer of wax is applied, followed by the use of a paper strip to remove the wax and leave your skin smooth and flawless.
Not all waxing techniques are created equal. Poor technique can lead to unnecessary pain, hair breakage, or even bruising. That's why it’s so important to find a skilled therapist who can minimise pain and give you long-lasting results. Don’t be tempted by bargain prices – expertise and hygiene should be your main focus when choosing a waxing professional.
Ingrown hairs can be caused by a number of factors, including:
It’s normal to experience slight redness after waxing, but if this lasts more than 48 hours, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me for advice. After your wax, it's important to keep the area clean and avoid heat for at least 24 hours. This means avoiding:
After 2 days, you can start dry brushing and continue 2-3 times a week, but don’t overdo it, as being too rough can cause ingrown hairs. Make sure to keep the skin moisturised. For a great aftercare routine, try applying baby oil to the waxed area after showering – this will keep your skin soft without feeling greasy.
Now that you’re all set, you're ready for a waxing experience that leaves you feeling and looking your best!
